Green Monday vs. Cyber Monday: 2008 Showdown
November 12, 2008
Looking for a great holiday gift idea? Home weather stations are perfect for anyone and they fit any budget!
Although “Cyber Monday” is the most famous online retail day during the holiday season it’s not an online retailer’s favorite day in terms of revenue. “Green Monday,” is a term coined by eBay to describe the second Monday in December as the largest online spending day of the season. In 2007, U.S. online retail spending on December 10th reached $881 million (up 33% versus the previous year), setting a record as the largest online spending day in history.
Last year, as the days grew closer to Christmas, the online spending grew as well. According to comScore, last year there was $430 million spent on Black Friday, $610 million on Cyber Monday, and a ridiculous $881 million spent on Green Monday.
See the below table for the top earning days in December of 2007:

And here are the dates online retailers need to prepare for this year:
Black Friday 2008: November 28th
Cyber Monday 2008: December 1st
Green Monday 2008: December 8th
Brown Monday 2008: December 15th*UPDATE* There’s been some debate over when Green Monday falls this year. In our opinion it’s the 8th because it was coined as the second Monday in December. However, the 15th will probably be a more significant day as far as sales are concerned because it’s about the last reasonable day you can get free Ground shipping and still have your package arrive in time for Christmas. We jut added Brown Monday 2008 to the calendar (Brown as in UPS as in last day for free shipping, get it?).
