I live in a small Wisconsin Community named Oshkosh. We are blessed to have a University in our town. Unfortunately this is a mixed blessing as it brings with it the down side of catering to this age group by also housing numerous taverns. In a town of 70,000 there are no less then 70 bars in Oshkosh, one for every thousand people. As a mother of two teenage sons it concerned me greatly that there wasn’t much for them or their non drinking friends to do in this town for entertainment . Thank GOD for House of Hereos, it is a comic book store located on our town’s main Street. They do so much more than sell comic books, movies, t-shirts and posters. Scott, the owner began sponsoring gaming tournaments, not the modern day electronic games, but, good old fashioned board games. He later began sponsoring a bi weekly movie night in his store, they call it “House of Horrors” on this night. Their resources are limited so, they display the movie on a clean white sheet tacked on a wall and use varios folding chairs to sit on. This event is attended by many. Just this month he publicized and sponsored the first annual “Zombie Walk” in conjunction with our towns monthly Art Gallery Walk. Over 200 participated, young and old alike. It was awesome to watch so many individuals express their creativity both in costume and character. My son a sophomore at the University was diagnosed with a severe mental illness revently it was
devastating, I worried about his future, would he be able to complete school, would he lose his friends? Thanks to House of Hereos and to the love and support of the many freinds he has made their with common interests he has been showing progress. The owner and crew at House of Hereos is very deserving of any help they could get to continue their great work.
